Virginia Lou (Hurtt) Sherman was born March 21, 1930 in Shawnee to Elmer and Pearl (Foster) Hurtt. She passed away January 5, 2024 in Norman at the age of 93.
Virginia grew up in Lincoln County and graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1948. She worked in the Chandler Bakery for many years until she went to work for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority. Following 15 years with the Turnpike she retired in 1994. Virginia was devoted to her family and loved people. She took care of many who needed someone’s help throughout her entire life.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Pearl Hurtt; husband of 54 years, Alvin Sherman, son, Duane Sherman; brothers, Philip Hurtt, Paul Hurtt, Robert Hurtt; sisters, Marjorie Pitts, and Muriel Lee Hodges. Survivors include her children, Linda Powers and her husband James of OKC, Anita Semtner and her husband Stephen of Shawnee, Terry Sherman and his wife Denise of Kansas, OK; sister, Darlene Lewis and her husband A.D. of Tuttle; 8 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; other family and friends who will miss her dearly.
