Tena Mittasch Obituary

Tena Mittasch (aka Ernestine Lavon Butler) entered this world on April 26, 1941, to John and Vera (Smothers) Butler and left to join her Heavenly Father on April 3, 2026, at the age of 84.

Tena grew up in Lincoln County around Carney, Oklahoma and spent most of her life in Agra and Carney. She was known for her daycare in Carney before retiring.  It made her happy when the children she cared for came back to see  her as adults and remembered all that she did for them. She referred to all of them as “my kids”.

Tena resided in Carney at the time of her death with her loving husband of 25 years, Jerry Mittasch. They never spent a night apart during their marriage and looked after one another with mutual happiness and loving hearts. Where you saw one you always saw the other. She loved to fish and camp in her RV with Jerry and one of her favorite times of the year was the Butler Family Reunion which she helped organize with her sister, Neta every year at the Chandler Lake. She loved all family and always put family before anything else.

Tena is survived by her loving husband Jerry Mittasch; her three children:  son Densiel Bottger and wife Denise of Perkins, daughter Lawanta Ramsey and husband James of Stillwater, and daughter Valorie Slayton and husband Richard of Belize. Special mention goes out to what the family calls our “second Mom”,  Karen Hunnicutt of Texas and all the love and support she has given the entire family throughout the years.

Tena grew up with eight siblings. She is survived by her sister, Neta Whitlow and husband John of Morrison, brother Dewey Butler and wife Shirley of Madill, brother Johnny Butler and wife Judy of Carney. She is joining her other siblings Delmer, Retha, Effie, Dorothy, and twin brother Ernest in heaven as well as her Daddy and Momma John and Vera Butler and one son Leslie Bottger.

There are numerous family members, cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends that are too many to mention but who knew and loved Tena for the kind, generous, loving woman she was. Her “Petunia” was always the light of her life.

A celebration of Tena’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, April 26, 2026 (her birthday) in the Carney School Multi-Purpose Room. Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the amazing life of Tena.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
