On July 16, 2026 the world got a little darker. Shannon Sue Bottger was a bright and giving light that burned out far too soon at the age of 60. She was born on August 12, 1965 in Iolo, Kansas to Sandra Sue Archer.
Shannon was a naturally loving person; she made all who met her feel welcomed and special. She cared deeply for her community and family. She dedicated 23 years of her life to the service of her community as an Agra volunteer firefighter while providing love and comfort to her family. Shannon was an incredibly strong person who at times felt larger than life itself. She was a dedicated parent and often volunteered for school events; she became a second mother to many children within and outside of her community.
Shannon loved spending time with her family at the lake. She would spend months planning and preparing for her biannual family fishing trips. She was her happiest when surrounded by friends and family. She loved fiercely and unapologetically.
When there was a problem, she would always want to fix it. During the blizzard of 2009 she spent her days in the Agra Senior Center cooking for all those without power. She would buy books for kids who couldn’t afford them from the book fair and extra school supplies for whoever needed them. She did all this privately and without need for thanks. Shannon lived to make the world around her a better place.
Shannon is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Lowell Bottger of the home; daughter, Gabrielle Bottger; along with a host of friends.
A celebration of Shannon’s life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 25, 2026 in the Agra High School Gymnasium. We encourage all that knew Shannon and her family to join us to celebrate all of the good she left behind. Donations can be made to the Agra Firefighters Association in Shannon's honor. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
