Scotty Cowan Obituary

Scotty S Cowan was born February 1, 1945 in New Braunfels, Texas to Carroll Cowan and Nona (Smith) Keene.  He passed away August 12, 2025 in Oklahoma City at the age of 80.

Scotty was tough as barbed wire and twice as sharp. He was the most hardworking man you could meet. He could drive any truck or heavy machinery you put him in and maintain or rebuild it too. He had a tool for everything. If he didn’t have a tool or piece of equipment, he would build it or figure out a way to get the job done and it always worked. He was welding on a trailer right up to about a month before his passing. His welds were a thing of beauty and always held. He was especially proud of a 1958 Pontiac with a 389 cubic inch engine with three deuce carburetors that he built in his younger days. It reportedly reached 178 mph and no doubt his math was correct as his mathematical skills were phenomenal.

He was firm and unwavering in his beliefs and moral compass and possessed an unusual amount of common sense. He taught his children to work and most importantly to think. He said no one could starve his children out if they could think. He was always quick to say how proud he was of his children and if you talked to him any amount of time you knew he loved his wife Rhonda Cowan more than anything. He had toys in his adulthood that he had built as a young boy. His physical acuity was matched by his mental faculties in all areas. He could talk at length, to anyone about anything. After retirement, he took care of his wife, family and neighbors and visited people in the local nursing home while working on personal projects at home.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Rossville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
