Roger D. Parrott was born in Wellston, Oklahoma, on November 30, 1921, to Guy Matthew Parrott and Katharine Luther (Lyons).  He passed away on May 3, 2014, in Oklahoma City at the age of 92.

Roger grew up on the farm in Wellston where he was born.  He went to Lone Star School and graduated from Wellston High School in 1940.  In high school he lettered in baseball and was active in Future Farmers of America.  In 1939 he was awarded the Master Farmer Degree.  During World War II, Roger proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Blackhawk in the Pacific.  His service continued for the next 68 years through the American Legion Post 64 in Chandler, including serving as State Commander from 1989-1990. 

Roger married Anna Fay (West) June 1, 1944 in Shawnee.  Roger was devoted to civic organizations throughout his life.  He was a member of the Chandler First United Methodist Church and served on the Chandler School Board.  As a humanitarian, Roger donated blood throughout his life, earning his 30 gallon pin.  Early in his career, Roger worked as a loan officer at Production Credit Association.  He later became the first director of the Lincoln County Community Action Agency, which became Redlands Community Action Agencey as the coverage area grew.  During his 14 years of service, Roger helped bring Headstart, Vista, Home Weatherization, and many other federal programs into the county before retiring in 1980.  Roger spent his entire life as a dedicated farmer, farming his 160 acres West of Chandler.  He raised Angus cattle and alfalfa hay, and blessed friends and family with the produce of his wonderful garden year after year.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Katharine.  Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Anna Fay (West) Parrott, of the home; children, Kenneth D. Parrott, M.D. and his wife Joanne of Stillwater, Mary and her husband Glenn Selk, of Stillwater, Carl D. Parrott and his wife Deborah of Edmond, Katharine Ann and her husband David Sitton, of Chandler; 6 granddaughters, Julie Puls and husband Steve, Robin Crouch and husband Jason, Reverend Rachel Parrott, Joelle Parrott and husband Andrew Stein, Heather Dietz and husband Clint, Katharine (Katy) Wilson and husband Alex; great-grandchildren, Hunter Puls, Tatum Crouch, Landon Dietz, and Keaton Dietz; sister, Doris Jean Manning and husband Eldredge; sister-in-law, Roberta Werth; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, who will miss him dearly.

A funeral was held Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Chandler with interment following at the Carney Cemetery.  Arrangements were under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.  Donations can be made to the Chandler American Legion Post 64 in honor of Roger D. Parrott.
