Ricky Craig Obituary

Ricky Von Craig was born June 24, 1955 and passed away January 19, 2024 at the age of 68.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Walter and Betty Craig; as well as two of his three brothers, Douglas and Brian.  He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Craig; their only daughter, Kimberly Kalnitzky and son-in-law, Steven; his only grandson, Brody Kalnitzky; along with his remaining brother, Gary; his chosen brother, Larry Carpenter and his wife, Cheryl.  Rick cherished Larry as a best friend for 55 years.  He is also survived by a host of family and friends who all learned to call his house and his cooking, home.

Rick spent his childhood following his father’s placements in the Air Force most notably in South Dakota which he often spoke of fondly.  They settled in Modesto, CA where Rick graduated from Modesto High School in 1973.  He then went on to Modesto Junior College finishing with an associate degree in printing.  While in high school, Rick found work at Valley Printing in Ceres, CA and retired from there after 26 years of running a variety of printing presses for them.  Rick spent many years manning the counter at Sister’s Consignments on Main Street.  Having found a love of playing Santa Claus in high school, he continued that journey in Stroud and for many children he was the only Santa Claus they were ever taken to see.  From the Christmas parade every year to many festivities around town, Rick was truly happy when getting to see children’s faces light up with joy at seeing Santa Claus, even if it was at Walmart in November.  Rick served two terms as the Stroud Chamber President and was honored as citizen of the year in 2011.

Rick had many hobbies outside of playing Santa Claus, he loved to go fishing and camping.  Rick loved to road trip and see as much of the world as he could taking many trips around the United States and a few on cruise ships to other countries.

Rick will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  His Memorial service will be at First Baptist in Stroud, OK on Friday, January 26th at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make a donation to the Oklahoma Humane Society in his name.
