Richard Lloyd Myers was born February 1, 1949, in Loma Linda, California to Seth Lloyd and Alice (Mertz) Myers.  He passed away October 19, 2024, in Oklahoma City at the age of 75.

Richard was the oldest of 3 children. He was born and raised in Barstow, California, graduating with honors from Barstow High School in 1967. He attended First Assembly of God Church there and was a Sunday School teacher. He graduated from Barstow College in 1969 before attending Cal State Bakersfield from 1969 to 1971. After college Richard enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He served in Marcus Island in the Pacific, and then at the US Coast Guard Supply Center in Brooklyn, New York.

After that he migrated to the Oklahoma City area where numerous family members lived. He first worked in a supply warehouse and mail at the Federal Prison in El Reno, later transferring to the Postal Service where he worked as a Computerized Forwarding System operator until his retirement.

Richard loved to fish, hunt, travel, explore, read and eat. He was known by all friends, family and strangers as quite a prankster. Children loved to be around him and challenge him to a game of chess, uno, puzzles or sports. You knew he had been at your home because you find little “trinkets” like pennies, nickels and rubber bugs for months after his visits. Although he never had children of his own, he was always affectionately known as Uncle Richard.

Survivors include his brother, Paul Myers and wife Jennifer of Moore; sister, Karen and husband Richard Bivens of Helendale, California; niece Heather and husband Lito Fojas; great-nephews Makani and Makoa Fojas of LaMesa, California; along with numerous cousins and friends around the country.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Crossroads Church in Oklahoma City with interment following at 2:00pm in the Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Memorial contributions can be made in Richard’s honor to the Assemblies of God Convoy of Hope.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
