Pauline Whitnah Obituary

Pauline Louise (Stein) Whitnah was born August 26, 1938 to George and Alvena Stein on the family farm in Wellston.  She passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024 in Edmond at the age of 85.

Pauline was baptized at 2 weeks of age and later confirmed when she was 12.  She began her education at Captain Creek School where she walked 2 miles to attend.  She later graduated from Wellston High School at the age of 16 with the class of 1955.  She met and married Eldon Whitnah July 12, 1958 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wellston.  She was a member of the Captain Creek Home and Community Education for 54 years.  She was an Avon Representative for 43 years and 11 months and honorary FFA degree recipient.  She was the treasurer of the Lutheran Ladies Circle for many years and loved to eat chicken at Long John Silvers and prayed every night for her kids and grandkids, saying each one of their names.

She enjoyed raising a garden, tending sheep, canning and always had something baked for her guests to enjoy.  Pauline took food to families who had a new baby or had lost a loved one.  She would always share details surrounding a loss in the community with a sympathetic approach as she was a source of information.  She worked at the fair in the canning competition area having won the Lodene canning award at least twice.  She had a personal goal to can 100 quarts of green beans annually.  Everyone loved her coconut cream pie and enjoyed buying them at benefit auctions bringing big money to help families in need. She always enjoyed making breakfast for her husband and children.  She and Eldon loved sharing movie nights with their grandchildren, where they would enjoy popcorn and her favorite drink, Dr. Pepper.  Even when life got tough, she was always there for her family and always made their house a home.

Pauline was the family caregiver and peacemaker, especially to her husband Eldon along with other family members and friends through the years.  She loved telling stories of her early years with her dad and friends in the travel trailer.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alvena Stein; husband of 54 years, Eldon Whitnah; great-grandson, Nash Hancock.  Survivors include her 3 sons, Ron and wife Shelly Whitnah, Paul and wife Stacie Whitnah, Wade and wife Dianne Whitnah all of Wellston; 11 grandchildren, Kerry and Melanie Whitnah, Dustin and Abby Allen; Lucas Allen, Chad and Heather Whitnah, Matt and Ashley Whitnah, Shelby and Tom Whatley, Andrew and Jessica Whitnah, Delaney and Alf Hancock, Garrett Whitnah, Heather Whitnah, Chisum Whitnah; 17 great-grandchildren, Colton, Callan, Cam, Teagan, Tennisyn, Ridge, Emma, Savanna, Ryann, Maddox, Kaiden, Westyn, McKinley, Amelia, Emery, Noah, Henry; 1 great-great-grandson, Colsen; siblings, Rosena Scott, Katherine and Bill Green, Christina and Johnny Polach.
