Nelson Everly King was born April 12, 1936 in Elk City to Everly and May (Chambers) King. He passed away March 14, 2023 in Edmond at the age of 86.
From the time he was a young boy, Nelson always worked in the fields, picking cotton and driving tractors. He graduated with the Merritt High School Class of 1954. Following high school, he attended OSU earning a bachelor’s degree in Geology and Geography. Nelson worked in every spot there was on a drilling rig. Every day after working on the rig all day, he went to his second job working many hours to pay his way through school. Nelson could calculate numbers configuring them in his head and had a terrific memory. Outside of the love for his wife, Ladonna, his passion was in the oilfield and OSU Athletics. From the day he married, he always introduced his wife as “his bride”. He was the happiest while he was working the oilfield or on his tractor. Nelson never expected anything from anyone that he would not do himself.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, E.W. and May King; and his sister, Doris Baker. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Ladonna King of the home; daughters, Kelli Roberge (John) of Frisco, TX, Kristi King of Columbus, OH, Nicole Benedict of Joplin, MO; stepdaughters, Rebecca Western of Carney, OK, Kimberly Russell (Dave) of Ada, OK; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul King of Merritt, OK; along with other family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Lehman Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Stillwater. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
