Nancy Louise (Johnson) Key was born February 20, 1951 to Johnny F. and Selma L. (Bass) Johnson in Wichita Kansas. She went to be with her Lord on February 28, 2020 in Wellston Oklahoma.
Being the daughter of a United States Marine, Nancy grew up a little bit of everywhere but loved to call Wellston home. She graduated from Wellston High School and went on to attend Central State University where she earned her teaching degree. Nancy began to teach second grade at Wellston Public Schools and loved teaching second grade so much that she spent thirty-five years educating and loving every second grader that passed through her classroom. In 1974, Nancy married her high school classmate Jim Key and their union brought forth two children, Michael and Lisa.
Since retiring in 2006, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. She was an active member of the Wellston United Methodist Church where she enjoyed working with the children’s ministries.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Johnny F. Johnson II and James V. Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Jim Key, of the home, son Michael and fiancé Ashley Gardner, daughter Lisa Robinson and husband Lucky, mother, Willa Johnson, sister Mary Matthews and Richard and brothers John and wife Donna Burruss and Joseph Johnson. Two grandchildren, Kasey Robinson and Hayden Bizzell-Key, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church of Wellston under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston. Donations can be made in Nancy’s honor to the National MS Society.
