Nan Sue Norton Obituary
Nan Sue Sparks-Norton was born on March 19,1958 in Oklahoma City to Travis and Sherrill (Setzer) Sparks. She passed away May 6, 2025, in Chandler at the age of 67.
She moved to Chandler in 1982 and has worked as the Lincoln County Court Clerk Deputy for several years. As a child, Nan wore frilly dresses most of the time. She was a bit of a diva! However, we can remember that as she became a teenager, she had no problem letting folks know that that was no longer her preferred style, she was into casual! As an adult, Nan had beautiful hair which she always kept up fashionably. On many family get-togethers, her cousins would complement her on it. At which time, she would gladly share style tips and tricks and talk about new ones.
Nan had her opinions about life (a trait common to all our family!) but was also willing to listen to others. She was a light in this world and shared her faith openly. She was kind, compassionate, and a great listener. Nan believed in God, angels, and His ever presence. She put her faith into action by singing with the church choir and supporting various missions. Nan often talked of how God was working out problems in her life from day-to-day issues to health problems she faced. Her faith gave her courage!
Nan is survived by her lovely mom of 91 years-Sherrill Sparks and her sweet children; David Dykes and wife Melissa, Heath Tawater, Julie Norton, and Chynna Norton, her terrific grandchildren; Allison Keith & husband Dakota, Aubrey Owen & husband-Derek, Asa Dykes, and Samuel Dykes, Avery Tawater, A’miya Tawater, great grandchildren-Emberly, Adelyn & Kooper, and her precious sisters and brother-in law; Pam & Marc Summervill and Kay Wilson, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts and uncles.
She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She spoke of the way David and Melissa nurtured their family, the goals Julie & Chynna were accomplishing, and how well Heath was doing which brought her peace. Gratefully, she acknowledged how Alli and Aubrey helped her navigate the waters after she returned home, and that David and Melissa were able to come & help after Hospice was called in. She confided recently to her sister, Pam, that strangely cancer had brought her family closer together! As Nan has been called Home, she would want each of us to remember: God is still writing your story. Quit trying to steal the pen and trust the Author!
A celebration of Nan’s life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Davenport. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
