Loretta Ellen (Bynum) Stokes

Loretta Ellen Stokes was born January 2, 1947 in Oklahoma City to Jesse and Irene (Fentner) Bynum.  She passed away September 9, 2021 in Edmond at the age of 74.

Loretta grew up in Spencer where she attended school.  She met her first husband, Gary Grandstaff, and they married in August 1963.  Adopted to this union in 1971 was their daughter, Melanie.  Loretta enjoyed serving at her church where she taught Sunday School and helped with children’s ministries.  She also volunteered for Project Heart delivering meals on wheels.

In November 1985, Loretta married Charles Stokes and they made their home in Wellston.  Loretta’s pride and joy was her grandchildren whom she loved to spend time with.  She will be remembered for the love she had for her family.

Loretta was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Bynum; first husband, Gary Grandstaff; mothers-in-law, Evelyn Grandstaff, Estelle Stokes; infant son, Vernon Grandstaff; brothers-in-law, Paul Vandever, Dale Stokes; sisters-in-law, Debbie Harber, Louise Reeves, Wilma Jean Bogle, son-in-law, Aaron Boss; and infant grandson, Carson Key.  Survivors include her mother, Irene Bynum of Spencer; husband of 35 years, Chuck Stokes of the home; daughter, Melanie and her husband Brian Key of Claremore; stepchildren, Cheryl Branch of Tecumseh, Jonnie (Stokes) Myers and her husband Doug of Luther, Charles Stokes, Jr. and his wife Shelly of Wellston; grandchildren, Hannah Ringer, Emma Harris, Cooper Key, Brandy Jaggers, September Rumbaua, Shannon Smith, Brittney Myers, Connor Myers, Tyler Christy, Toni Christy; siblings, Jesse Ray Bynum and wife Rhonda, Jimmy Bynum and wife Linda, Kenny Bynum and wife Denise, Carol Butts, Lois Shipp and husband Roy; along with many other loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, September 13, 2021 at noon with the family greeting friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doyle Seeley officiating and interment following in the Arlington Memory Gardens Cemetery in Oklahoma City.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
