Lee Amen Obituary

Lee Roy Amen was born April 3, 1932 in Corn, Oklahoma and passed away January 6, 2020 in Wellston at the age of 87.  As others have done in his generation, Lee was asked to quit school to support his family and the family farm.  Later in 1953 he was drafted in the United States Army and was stationed in New York City.  He met Clorus Walker and married in 1958 raising three daughters together.  In 1962 he began his career with Tinker Air Force Base where he worked for the next 18 years until retirement.  While at Tinker he volunteered to go to Vietnam working as a civilian.  He also spent time working in Paris, France for the U.S. Air Force.

Lee raised cattle, and farmed the land where he and Clorus made their home starting in 1967.  He drove a school bus for Wellston where he also retired.  Lee was a 50 plus year member of the Wellston Christian Church where he served as a deacon, elder, and board member.  He was also a member of the Wellston American Legion and enjoyed fishing, camping, water sports, and loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He enjoyed gathering with extended family playing games such as ROOK and dominos.  Lee will be remembered as a Good Samaritan as he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, John and Delsie (Banner) Amen; wife of 58 years, Clorus (Walker) Amen; siblings, Fern Smalley, Albert Amen, Daisy Newfield, Jay Amen, and Nancy Rickerd.  Survivors include his daughters, Lynn Steffens and husband Eddie of Wellston, Lea Howell and husband Roper of Spur, TX, Laurie Sheets of Tulsa; (9) grandchildren, Justin Bundy, Jesse McBride, Daniel McBride, Tra Howell, Wesley Sheets, Leslie Randolph, Emily Rice, Tenley Molina, Courtney Bryson; (12) “GREATS”, Noah, Haden, Anderson, Daltin, Cheyanne, Bentlee, Teagan, Lexington, Remi, Beaslee, Foster, Atlas; along with many other family and friends.

A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Wellston Christian Church with Reverend Brent Avery officiating and military honors following in the Wellston Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
