Joy was born on December 27, 1945, in Chandler, Oklahoma, where she was born, raised, and spent her entire life. She graduated from Chandler High School in 1964 and married the love of her life, Loyal Sullivan, on April 1, 1972. Together they built a life centered on hard work, family and love.
Before her marriage, Joy worked as a waitress. After marrying Loyal, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family and took great pride in creating a loving home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy in life was caring for those she loved. Joy was strong-willed, outspoken, and fiercely loyal. She loved deeply and never hesitated to stand up for the people she cared about. She had a special love for animals, especially dogs, and found great happiness in their companionship.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. Montgomery and Arlene Montgomery; her brother, Gary Montgomery; her sister, Sharon Clary; and her nieces, Sharon O’Leary and Leslie Evans. She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Loyal Sullivan of Chandler, Oklahoma; her son, Monty Sullivan and wife, Jamy, of Ormond Beach, FL; and her daughter, Shelly Sullivan of Frisco, Texas.
She is also survived by Gary’s wife, Detra Montgomery, and her children, Jay Montgomery and Jamie Bird and husband, Brandon; all of Tulsa, OK. Sharon’s daughter, TJ Abbott of Perkins, OK. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Blake Sullivan of Ormond Beach, FL, Madison Bond and husband, Jacob, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Andrew Talley and wife, Caroline, of McKinney, Texas and her beloved great-grandchildren, Hayden and Wyatt; she is further survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Those who knew Joy will remember her strength, her honesty, and the fierce love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she cherished so deeply. The family finds comfort in knowing that during her final moments, she was surrounded by loving hands and familiar voices, hearing words of peace and love until the very end. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
