Jim Lucas Obituary

Jim Lucas Obituary

Dr. James Richard Lucas, MD was born March 24, 1941 in Tulsa to Jack and Ruby (Battenfield) Lucas.  He passed away July 6, 2026 in Tyler, Texas at the age of 85.

Jim was a graduate of Sand Springs High School and OU Medical School. After graduation, Jim enlisted in the Public Health Service, which at the time was a branch of the Coast Guard. He later completed his residency in anesthesiology in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Jim continued his long career in medicine in clinics across the country from Alaska to Texas.

After retirement, Jim and Marty enjoyed spending their time together traveling. Many of these adventures were centered around Disney World, which he particularly enjoyed since he was always a kid at heart. Jim was always up to something with his funny antics at many family gatherings.

Jim enjoyed reading the Bill O’Reilly books as well as being fascinated by nonfiction books about science and the workings of the universe. He was adamant about keeping his medical knowledge updated.

He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and enjoyed his time with them, treating them to rides on his Ford tractor.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Moretta (Marty) Lucas; four children, Kelly Kinney and Jim of Cushing, Texas, Laura Beam and John, Jackie Ellis and Richard, all of Edmond, Morgan and Liz Lucas of Mustang, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Haleigh Lucas of San Diego, California, Ryder Ellis of Edmond, Oklahoma, Cassie Lucas, Lexie Lucas both of Mustang, Oklahoma; along with a host of other family and friends.

A private graveside service will be held at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
