Amos Eugene “Gene” Chase was born November 23, 1928 in Carney to Amos and Delpha (Sadler) Chase. He passed away December 11, 2020 in Shawnee at the age of 92.
Gene grew up on a family farm in Carney where he attended school and graduated with the class of 1946. He farmed with his family milking cows, plowing fields behind mules, and followed the wheat harvest. At school he played basketball and drove a school bus when he turned 16 and was still a student himself. Gene later worked on the Railroad and worked at a lumber yard in Oklahoma City until he joined the United States Army. He served in Japan and a tour in the Korean War.
After his military career, Gene continued working in the lumber business and was later set up on a blind date. He soon married Jane Delphon on January 17, 1959 and they raised 3 children together. After some time in the Oklahoma City area, they moved back to family land in Chandler in 1969. He continued working in Oklahoma City until retirement.
Gene was a charter member and deacon of the Chandler Southern Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, history and genealogy. His favorite place to travel was the Ozarks. Gene remained very active throughout his entire life. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and truly never met a stranger.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Delpha Chase; brother, Nolan Chase; daughter, Paula Del Tarlton; and great-grandbabies, Luke, and Nicholas Studebaker.
