Gary Merle Guile was born June 1, 1944, in Kirksville, Missouri to Merle Guile and Ruby Maxine (Calvin) Shaw. He passed away December 9, 2024, in Edmond at the age of 80.
Gary served 9 years in the Marine Corps. He was an avid collector of WWII memorabilia, classic cars, and books. He enjoyed reading and spent his golden years traveling the country with his late wife, Joy, and his twilight years with his friend, Jimmy Fullerton.
Gary never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need, even if he had never met them. He loved to tell tales and brought new meaning to the term, “dad jokes.” As a father he made up songs and dances with his daughters and as a grandfather he instigated Nerf Wars with his grandsons. He believed in UFO’s, conspiracy theories and that you should always keep a little “mad money” just in case. He was always one to march to the beat of his own drum and lived life on his own terms.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Ruby; wife, Joy Guile; brothers, Bruce Guile and Roger Guile. Survivors include his children, Tackle Guile and wife Pam of Texas, Karie Wright and husband JP of Wellston, Chris Smith of Wellston; brother, James “Toad” Guile and wife Joann of Oklahoma City.
Gary’s request was to have a small private service with his family. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to the Mishapacha Committee at Emanuel Synagogue in Oklahoma City. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
