Freddie Don Hackworth was born March 20, 1945, in Chandler to Donald Hackworth and Opal Faye (Starling) Reese. He passed away May 17, 2026, at his home in Medford at the age of 81.
He spent most of his younger years living near Carney, graduating with the class of 1963. Although attending church most of his younger life, he came to know Christ at the age of 18 at a Baptist Church youth night revival.
He met and dated Donna Marie Ross in high school and later married the love of his life on July 31, 1965. From this union came a daughter, Stacy, and a son, Michael. Freddie attended Central State College for 2 years and then took a job with Sunray, at a gas production plant in Wakita in 1969. He lived 21 years there with his family and built many precious memories. He became Plant Supervisor in 1986. Three years later in 1989, he and Donna moved to Purcell where he took a new supervisor’s job at a Sun Gas Production Plant in Goldsby. He later worked for Conoco and Enerfin Resources in Seminole.
One of his greatest loves was teaching the bible. He felt God’s call at age 24 and has taught the remainder of his life along with his wife, Donna. God was primary in his life, but he also enjoyed traveling, sports, raising cattle, hunting, and outdoor life. His greatest joy was his wife and children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, Don Hackworth and Opal Reese. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Donna Hackworth of the home; daughter, Stacey Hackworth of Medford; son, Michael Hackworth of Smithville, Missouri; grandchildren, Haley Hackworth of Liberty, Missouri, Aaron Hackworth and wife Janessa, along with their daughter Tanya of Kansas City, Missouri, Christian and Bailey Hackworth of Sedalia, Missouri; along with numerous other family members, cousins and friends.
Memorial contributions can be made in Freddie’s honor to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas or St Jude’s Research Hospital.
A funeral will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Blackwell, followed by interment at the Carney Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
