Eva June Matthews was born July 14, 1934 in Wellston to Benford and Ora (Kennedy) Matthews. She passed away October 26, 2021 in Chandler at the age of 87.
Eva June grew up around the Captain Creek area and was a life-long resident of Wellston where she graduated high school with the class of 1952. She retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation where she worked in the surveying department. Eva June was a member of the Red Hat Society and member of the Wellston United Methodist Church. In later years, she regularly went to the Wellston Senior Center for lunch and an afternoon filled with puzzles, dominos and other games. She loved her grandchildren and family who will miss her dearly.
Eva June was preceded in death by her parents, Benford and Ora Matthews; and her brother, Leon Matthew. Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie Griffo and her husband Ken of Cary, NC.; three grandsons, Nicholas Griffo of Los Angeles, Nathaniel Griffo of Kitty Hawk, NC., Karsten Griffo of Asheville, NC; sister, Benita Collier and her husband Harlin of Skiatook; sister-in-law, Mary Matthews of Stillwater; nieces, Denise Arndt and her husband Andy of Billings, MO, Diedra Scott and her husband Stephen of Owasso; nephew, Denton Collier and his wife Rhonda of Tulsa; cousin, Dormalee McWilliams of Wellston; special friends, Audrey and Nokose Fish of Wellston; along with other family and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 Monday, November 1, 2021 in the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Patricia Johnson officiating and interment following in the Wellston Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
