Edith Mae Phipps was born September 3, 1929 in Yukon, Oklahoma to Jim and Ethel (Majors) Welch. She passed away September 3, 2020 in Chandler at the age of 91.
Edith was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County. She graduated with the Chandler High School class of 1949 and was a hard-working lady. She was a true servant of the Lord and longtime member of both the Carney and Chandler First Baptist Church. She worked at the County Extension office for many years. Edith married Wayne Phipps on May 6, 1960 and they raised 2 children together. They farmed together for many years. Edith loved attending her church and she was very involved. She was a unique, extraordinary, talented, artistic, dedicated person and she will be dearly missed.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ethel Welch; husband, Wayne Orrin Phipps; siblings, Dortha Faye, Roland Augusta, Jimmie ‘Jay’ Majors, Imogene Laverne, Kelsey Milton, Willa June Kalka, infants Earl Hardin and Edgar Lewis; sister-in-law, Marguerite Russell.
Survivors include her children, David Phipps of Washington, Oklahoma, Mayva and her husband Mark Hicks of Chandler; 6 grandchildren, Kyle Phipps (Sheila), Emily Phipps, James Phipps (Brandy), Amber Hinds, Dillon Hicks, Shaina Villegas (Juan); great-grandson, Wesson Phipps; nieces, Pamela Humphries (Richard), Judy Smith (David), Connie Welch, Sharon Ragland (Lynn); along with many extended family at the nursing home where she spent over the last 10 years.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the Carney Cemetery under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
