Dwayne Edwin Wassam was born on November 2, 1927, in Colorado Springs, CO. He was the youngest son to Leonard and Mabel Wassam and a younger brother to Otis Wassam. Dwayne was raised in the small town of Palmer Lake, CO. At the age of 23 he met and married Doris Best. They had 3 children, Randy, Rick, and Rhonda Wassam. In 1966, Dwayne and Doris purchased land in Carney, OK which helped Dwayne fulfill his lifelong dream of having a farm.

Dwayne provided for his family by driving cross country including driving for the Greyhound Bus lines and then for Transcon Trucking Company. He eventually found employment in Carney as a bulldozer operator which was his last job before retiring. Dwayne met and worked with Steve Foster and soon became close friends with he and his family.  He has become like a family member to the fosters.

Dwayne enjoyed raising cattle and gardening.  Planting and taking care of his flowers and his yard was a great joy to him. He loved watching all of the hummingbirds feeding off of the many feeders he had hanging outside his window.

Dwayne resided in Carney, OK until he moved to Perkins, OK in 2023. He moved into the Redbud Assisted Living Facility until he passed peacefully on October 12, 2024, at the age of 96

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mabel Wassam; and brother, Otis Wassam.  He is survived by his children Randy Wassam and his wife Kindra, of Seminole, OK, Rick Wassam of Castle Rock, CO, and Rhonda Madison of Perkins, OK; 4 grandchildren, Kortney Wahkinney, Taylor Wassam, Skyler Madison and Emily Madison; and recently gained a great grandson, Tate Wassam.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. October 16, 2024, at the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
