Deanna Lee Christy was born on November 19, 1939, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to parents, Cassie and Earl Christy. She passed away May 20, 2023.
Deanna graduated from Dumas High School, Dumas, Texas, and was a member of the High School band. She resided a few years in California then moved to Pueblo, CO to be closer to her dad and stepmother where she lived for 50+ years. Deanna retired from the Gold Dust Saloon Restaurant & Bar where she worked in several capacities. She once had her picture with writeup in the Pueblo Chieftain newspaper for her potato peeling skills. Her boss (and great friend) Ruth McDonald estimated Deanna had cut over 14 tons of potatoes into French fries in the 33 years working for her. Ruth became Deanna's caretaker as time went by until Deanna reached a stage in life that she needed to be near family. She moved to Eufaula, Oklahoma, in January of 2021, where she resided with her cousin, Thomas J. Christy, then eventually entering the Eufaula Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until her death.
Deanna was a very social person and made many friends through the Gold Dust, The American Legion Auxiliary Post #2 and the Eagles #3367. She loved movies and going to events with friends and was known for her sometimes-brash attitude followed by her witty humor. She also loved traveling and took various bus tours over the years. These trips and trips made by friends resulted in her collection of more than 50 souvenir T-shirts, most were never worn, with each having a story she liked to share.
Deanna was preceded in death by her mother, Cassie Newcomb and father and stepmother, Earl and Esther Christy. She is survived by her cousins Glen D. Webb and wife, Fran, Charles E. Webb and wife, Monique, Thomas J. Christy and wife, Frances, as well as other relatives and her many friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston, Oklahoma.
Special thanks to Melody Barnard for officiating the service. Special thanks for the care given Deanna by the staff of Eufaula Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Eufaula, Oklahoma, Ruth McDonald of Pueblo, Colorado, and Linda Barnett of Checotah, Oklahoma.
