Dean Imel Obituary

Kenneth Dean Imel was born June 18, 1927 on the family farm in Stroud, Oklahoma to Kenneth Chester and Pearl May (Roberson) Imel.  He passed away April 6, 2019 in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 91.

Dean graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and earned his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma University and Masters of Science in Construction Management from Oklahoma State University.  He worked as a senior level civil engineer for Dolese where he oversaw many projects, his largest being the building of the Cox Convention Center and the Bricktown Canal.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and later served in the Army Reserves.

Dean had a lifelong love of music and played piano for his wife every day.  He also had a passion for working and teaching students who took part in his Construction Management Technology courses at Oklahoma State University.  In 1983, he was selected as an OSU outstanding faculty member and was inducted into the construction management hall of fame in 2006.

Dean married the love of his life, Ruth Jane (Long) Imel, in 1947 and they shared 71 years together having raised (7) children, Dean Imel and his wife Mari of Oklahoma City, Steve Imel (deceased), Randy Imel and his wife Claudia of Jenks, Fred Imel and his wife Brenda of Amber, Ben Imel (deceased) and his wife Elaine of Wellston, Marcy and her husband Joe Carrick of Carlton Landing, Dianne and her husband Hal Kessler of Deer Creek; (16) grandchildren, Missy, Laura, Gretchen, Stewart, Nicole, Luke, Zac, Wes, Parker, Hayley, Kristen, Marla, Meredith, Joey, Hal and Hillarie; (18) great-grandchildren so far; sister, Eloise Conley and her family of Colorado; along with many other family and friends.
