David Shappie Obituary
David Charles Shappie, 72, passed from this life on Sunday January 21, 2022 at his home in Spencer, Oklahoma. He was born on August 20, 1949 in Coldwater, Ohio to Paul and Armella Shappie.
He grew up and spent many years in the East coast Florida town of Vero Beach, where he liked swimming, surfing, speargun fishing, building & flying model planes, roller-skating, and hot rod cars. David was always tinkering on something, be it a car, motorcycle, lawnmower, or “you-name-it” that needed fixed. Over the years, he worked as an auto mechanic and owned an Amoco gas station in Vero, was a handy-man, and did other odd jobs. As a professional tree trimmer, he seemingly defied gravity, skillfully moving among the branches with his climbing gear, ropes, and chainsaw. In the early 90’s, he moved to Oklahoma to help care for our mom in her last years of life. He chose to live by his own tenets and was described by his neighbors as a “well-liked good guy who would help anyone”.
He enjoyed sketching and painting wildlife and outdoor scenery in pencil, watercolors, and oil paint. Woodworking and tooling leather were also among his many talents. Monopoly is remembered as his favorite game, at which he was a brutal real estate tycoon, usually coming out the winner!
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Donna Jean Carter and husband Clay of Webb City, Missouri, his son John Moody of Linden, Tennessee, 4 grandchildren, Nathan Travis Carter of Garden Grove, California, and Nicholas Cody Carter and wife Shujie Carter of Ridgecrest, California, Danielle and Wyatt Moody of Linden, Tennessee, great-grandchildren Olivia and Carson of Ridgecrest, California, 2 brothers, Bill of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Steve of Vero Beach, Florida, 3 sisters, Louise Levinson of Carthage, Tennessee, Kathy Schidel of Vero Beach, Florida, and Julie Young of Luther, Oklahoma, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and oldest brother, Jim.
