Dan Stites Obituary

Daniel Denny Stites, 80, lost his battle with cancer Friday, March 18, 2022 at his Wellston home with his family by his side.

Dan was born January 15, 1942 in Hanna, Oklahoma to James Butler and Dicie Pendley Stites.  He grew up the next to youngest of six children.  After high school graduation he joined the United States Army where he met his wife Mary Katherine Ludwig.  They were married for 49 years and had one daughter, Debra Lynn.  He worked as a truck driver and for the United States Postal Service, but his true love was his family and serving his community through the 1st Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Dan was preceded in death by parents; wife, Mary Stites; brothers, Billy and James; and his sisters, Laura Lou and Melva Joy.  Survivors include his daughter, Debi Hawkins of the home; granddaughter, Danielle of Wellston; brother, Colonel Stites of California; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday March 26, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Wellston.  Dan’s family request donations be made to the Wellston Masonic Lodge, PO Box 21 Wellston, OK 74881 or the Wellston First Baptist Church Youth Program in lieu of flowers.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
