Charles Wayne Stokes, Jr. Obituary

Charles Wayne Stokes Jr. was born on October 5, 1969, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He passed away at his home in Wellston, Oklahoma, on June 6, 2025, surrounded by love and family.

Charles was known for his one-of-a-kind sense of humor, his fierce loyalty, and his unique taste in food, which often included hot dogs, hilariously overcooked fish sticks, and burnt frozen pizza. Despite his love of comically simple meals, he was also an incredible cook and could prepare a genuinely amazing meal when he wanted to.

He found joy in the small things in life: grocery shopping, feeding his birds, sitting on his porch, and spending time with his grandchildren. There was never a day when he came home from work without friends or family waiting to hang out, laugh, and eat his famous spaghetti. He had a magnetic presence, and everyone who knew him was drawn in by his charm.

Charles worked for over 20 years at Tinker Airforce Base but was never happier than when he was a meat cutter at Crest Foods - a job he truly loved  where he was admired by coworkers and customers alike. His work ethic was only matched by the passion he had for his family, friends, and his weenie dogs who brought him joy every day.

Charles had a lifelong love for the Church of Christ and was deeply rooted in his faith. He was raised in the church and carried that love for the Lord throughout his life and shared his passion for the lord with those around him.

Eventually, he settled down with the love of his life, Shellie, whom he married on September 11, 2010, in Edmond, Oklahoma after years of being “just friends”.

Charles is survived by his parents, Charles Wayne Stokes, Sr. and Shirley Goggin Stokes; wife, Shellie Stokes; children, Tyler Christy, Toni Wilson; granddaughters, Elena, Dakota, Harper & Kolbie; sisters, Cheryl Branch, Jonnie and husband Doug Myers, Melanie and husband Brain Key; six nieces and 2 nephews, and his three pups Darell, Vinny, & Dottie.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Andy and Inez Goggin and Clarence and Estelle Stokes.

Charles was a man of deep love, who loved watching his OU Football, and his outrageous fireworks on the 4th of July. He was a man with big laughs, and unforgettable stories. His impact on those around him is immeasurable, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.

A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in the Wellston Church of Christ with interment following in the Wellston Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
