Billie Melrose was born November 30, 1925, in LaGrange, Georgia to Curtis and Helen (Minnix) Britt.  She passed away November 1, 2025, in Meeker at nearly one hundred years of age.

Billie grew up in Atlanta, Georgia where she worked as a switchboard operator.  She met Bob Melrose at a USO dance.  They later married on her 20th birthday, moved to Oklahoma and raised three children together.

Billie worked for EARC in a thrift store in Edmond for many years.  She then opened her own thrift store, Granny’s Attic, a local thrift store known by people in the community and beyond.  Her grandchildren and their friends all enjoyed Billies swimming pool where a number of them learned to swim.

Billie had a love of Jesus and an outward witness she shared with all.  She was extremely active in the Missionary Baptist Church of Wellston where she used to play the piano and organ.  She enjoyed the young people of the church teaching the Junior Sunday School Class for many years.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Helen Britt; brothers, James Britt, and an infant brother; husband, Bob Melrose; infant granddaughter, Amy Melrose; and a grandson, Jeff Melrose.  Survivors include her children, Butch Melrose and wife Anita Marie of Wellston, Jim Melrose and wife Anita Jane of Missouri, Barbara Hoots and husband John of Wellston; seven grandchildren, Bryan Melrose, Carrie Manning (Mark), Laura Melrose, Bethany Smith (Randy), Andrea Hoots, Robert Hoots (Sarah), Shannon Hoots (J.J. Walker); sixteen great-grandchildren; twin great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marsha Raper of Georgia; along with her church family, friends, and Meeker Nursing Home staff and residents.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Missionary Baptist Church of Wellston.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
