Alvus Earl Morehouse Obituary
Alvus Earl Morehouse was born November 18, 1925 in Rossville, Oklahoma to John and Daisy (Davis) Morehouse. He passed away December 25, 2022 in Oklahoma City at the age of 97.
Al’s parents moved to Seminole in 1926 to work during the oil boom. In 1941 following the death of his mother, they moved to Humphreys, OK south of Altus. He attended schools at Snowmac, Wolf, Humphreys and a one-room school in the Kendrick community.
Al was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Infantry and the 8th Air Force. He was a 28-year Civil Service Retiree, member of the American Legion, Cattlemen’s Association, Solo, Orsis, Knights of Pythias, 52-year member of the Travelers Protective Association of America and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Al was a collector of the past, some called it antiques but he called it hard to find items or a one-of-a-kind. He found joy in saying I have one of those when referring to something that not many had. He loved dancing, traveling and genealogy. Al researched his family’s history back to the year 1795. The Morehouse and Davis history is published in the Lincoln County Oklahoma History book. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His love and devotion achieved him the friendship of many he so cherished and would say his life had been blessed.
Al was married to three very attractive, educated ladies. One gave him three wonderful children. He had been to the end of the rainbow and there was no pot of gold. He has witnessed the testing of an atomic bomb and walked through the valleys of darkness, danced with the demons, shunned the devil’s advances, wept tears of sadness and cried tears of joy. Sometimes he wondered if the grief and disappointments endured in life exceeded the pleasures and golden moments of happiness. He was a common man passing through the earth’s time zone like a rocket to the heavens. He cherished mortals for their friendship along the way made his journey more enjoyable.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, John and Daisy Morehouse; son, Christopher Ray; twin siblings, Arile Ray and Arline Mae. Survivors include his daughters, Annette Kay Sewell, Patricia Lynn Strunk and her husband William; granddaughters, Christina Lynn Good and her husband Travis, Sarah Elizabeth Sewell along with other family and friends.
A graveside funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2022 at the Rossville Cemetery south of Wellston. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
