Vernon Wayne Ebert was born in Wellston, Oklahoma to Alfred Fredrick and Beulah (Herrold) Ebert on January 22, 1936.  He went home to be with his Lord and his wife Lana on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the age of 81.

Vernon helped his dad work on the family farm caring for cattle, and combining wheat.  He graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1954 then attended Oklahoma State University and Central State College where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in teaching.  He later obtained his master’s degree from Central State College and began his coaching and teaching career at McLoud Public Schools.  He later moved on to become the Assistant Principal at Edmond High School and remained there until his retirement in 1988.

Vernon married his love, Lana Jeanne (Gardener) on October 21, 1964.  To this union (3) children were born; Tara Lynn, Jay Vernon and Bradley Wayne.

Vernon was not only passionate about his family, but was a very dedicated fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and his Oklahoma State Cowboys.  He always told his children that we bleed orange! Vernon was a superb coach and teacher who was highly respected and loved by his students and fellow teachers.  He always had time to lend an ear and was wonderful at helping someone make the right decision.  Vernon worked hard in school and farming and ranching.  It was not uncommon for him to get out of school, change clothes and head straight to the field to relieve his dad, often working way into the night.

Most importantly, Vernon was a hard working Christian. He was a lifelong member of the Wellston Church of Christ. He was exceptional husband, father and grandfather.  The void in our lives will forever be felt.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Beulah Ebert; and loving wife of 51 years, Lana Jeanne (Gardner) Ebert.  Survivors include his children, Tara and husband Danny Hubbard of Meeker, Jay and wife Laurie Ebert of Edmond, Brad Ebert of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Jaron Carder, Shai Castoe, Michael and his wife, Charlie, Matthew, Christopher and Lane Ebert, Angelica Stewart and her husband Joshua, Jacob Ebert; great-grandchildren, Sierra and Seth Castoe, Colton Stewart; sister, Brenda Goodman; sister-in-law Bonnie and husband Neil Schader of Norman nieces, Tammy and husband Jeff Bolin, Patricia and husband Mark Hart, Merissa and husband Jerry Foster; nephew, Greg Schader; great niece, Brooke Bolin; great nephews, Jackson Bolin, Andy and Mason Anderson; as well as many other relatives, friends and colleagues.

A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday September 25, 2017 at the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Wellston Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
