Ruth Jane (Long) Imel was born Oct. 29, 1925 to Verne Vere and Edith Maude (Latter) Long in Oklahoma City. She passed away April 30, 2019 in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 93. She was one of 6 siblings who all proceeded her in death: Verne, Bob, Corrinne, Bobbie and Mary.
Ruth Jane graduated Classen High School in Oklahoma City, earned her Bachelors of Nursing through Washington University at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Dean Imel, in 1947 immediately after he returned from serving in the Navy after WWII. Her husband Dean preceded her in death by 3 weeks and 3 days. She worked nights as an RN at St. Anthony’s hospital in Oklahoma City while gaining her Master’s in nursing at Oklahoma City University and raising (7) children, Dean Imel and his wife Mari of OKC, Steve Imel (deceased), Randy Imel and his wife Claudia of Jenks, Fred Imel and his wife Brenda of Amber, Ben Imel (deceased) and his wife Elaine of Wellston, Marcy and her husband Joe Carrick of Carlton Landing, Dianne and her husband Hal Kessler of Deer Creek; (16) grandchildren Missy, Laura, Gretchen, Stewart, Nicole, Luke, Zac, Wes, Parker, Hayley, Kristen, Marla, Meredith, Joey, Hal and Hillarie; (18) great-grandchildren so far along with many other extended family and friends. Her husband and family were her life here on earth.
Ruth Jane and her husband Dean enjoyed 71 years of marriage together. After raising their children they enjoyed travels to the mountains in Colorado and Wyoming, attended Ragtime piano festivals where they danced and Dean played piano, lived briefly on Grand Lake and in Branson before returning to Oklahoma to be closer to family. She was a woman who loved God and family, worked hard every day with a smile to provide for her family’s needs and had a strong value of education that she instilled into her children. She will be missed greatly by her family but they know “in the blink of an eye” they will be with her in Heaven for eternity.
Private Services were held at Ruth's request under the under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
