Ronald Edwin Matheson

Ronald Edwin Matheson was born on March 5, 1942 in Stroud, Oklahoma to James Edwin and Velma Faye (Doughty) Matheson.  He passed away on September 18, 2018 at the age of 76 with his family by his side at his family home North of Kendrick, Oklahoma.

Ronnie was a faithful Christian, a wonderful husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.  Ronnie graduated from Kendrick High School with the class of 1961.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard.

Ronnie and Janet were married in 1970 and they made their home on the family farm where they raised their children.  He was a founding member of the Kendrick Volunteer Fire Department and retired after 20 years of service.  Ronnie loved playing his guitar with friends.  He loved hunting, fishing, spending time at Lake Tenkiller and playing Frisbee with his dog, Matty.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; grandson; granddaughter; and (3) great-granddaughters.  Survivors include his wife of nearly 49 years, Janet (Sterkel) Matheson of the home; (5) daughters, Brenda and her husband Bryan Dervin of Stroud, Jackie and her husband Ben Stewart of Stroud, Lisa and her husband Alfred Gordon of Kendrick, Shelly Roney and Sherry Short both of Yukon; son Gary Shackleford of Kansas; (14) grandchildren; (14) great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Ann and Steve Lynn of Texas; aunt, Maxine Henshaw of Stroud; uncle, Kenneth Doughty of Choctaw along with other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept 21, 2018 at the Stroud Church of Christ with Reverend Loren Geiger officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
