Richard Key Obituary

Richard Lee Key was born January 21, 1939 in Chandler to Wilson Tandy and Grace Alma (Goodman) Key.  He passed away April 28, 2019 in Oklahoma City at the age of 80.

Richard grew up in Chandler where he graduated high school with the class of 1957.  He married Rosemary McMichael February 13, 1960 and they raised two children together.  Richard served his community for 42 years working for the US Postal service mostly in Chandler and 15 years as Postmaster in Okemah until retirement.  He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Chandler Fire Department and until his death was the oldest retired fireman in Chandler.

Richard enjoyed golf, hunting, camping and gambling on horses, craps, and blackjack.  He enjoyed listening to gospel music and was an avid reader with a knack for leaving a book in every room of his home only to return to the page he left and continue reading.  He loved spending time with his family including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Grace Key; wife of 56 years, Rosemary Key; siblings, Melvin Key, Leo Key, Phyllis Runko, Don Key, Alma Lee-Hinkle; and granddaughter, Alexandra Pettigrew.  Survivors include his sons, Rich Key and wife Glenda of Longview, TX, Craig Key and wife Dana of Chandler; (7) grandchildren, Brooke Baze, Chelsea Williamson (Joshua), Abbigail Key, Macy Harpole (Curtis), Callie Grace Key, Sarah Turk (Austin), Kamryn Key; (3) great-grandchildren, Logann, Owen, Asher; siblings, Jack Key (Sally) of California, Susie Davidson of Chandler; along with other family and friends.

Donations can be made in honor of Richard to the Chandler Fire Department where he and his wife often made donations themselves.  A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Oak Park Cemetery with Reverend Christine Pomaville officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
