Linda Smith Obituary

Linda Lou Smith was born November 13, 1939 in Davenport to Kenneth Harold and Rachel Bernice (Dye) Melton.  She went home to be with her Lord October 22, 2018 in Chandler at the age of 78.

Linda grew up in Davenport where she graduated high school with the class of 1957.  She married Raymond Smith December 23, 1958.  She continued her education earning an associate’s degree from Central State College.  She and her husband Ray lived in Maryland for 26 years before moving back to Chandler in 1992 where they built their home on Bell Cow Lake. They opened the Ray Smith Insurance Agency in Chandler in 1995 and operated it for 18 years until their retirement.

Linda volunteered at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for many years, was an Eucharist Minister and past president of the Alter Society.  She enjoyed watching OU sports and OKC Thunder Basketball and traveling with her family.  Most of all Linda loved spending time with her grandchildren and dear friends in Chandler.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tina Smith; brother, Ronald Melton; daughter-in-law, Cindy Smith.  Survivors include her husband of 59 years Raymond Smith of the home; children, Robin Renee Helm and husband Tim of Chandler, Raymond Smith, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Collinsville, Kaysi R. Smith of Chandler; (7) grandchildren, Raelynn Smith, Cortney and her husband Scott Helm, Rachael Roberts, Rebecca Smith, Raymond Smith III, Megan Rice, Lindsay Israel; a host of great-grandchildren; siblings, Harold Melton of Pineville, MO, Jimmy Melton of Oklahoma City, Janie and husband Gerald Hale of Tulsa; many other family and friends.

A viewing will be held from 3:00 till 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Lehman Funeral home.  A Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Chandler with Father Jim Mickus officiating.  Memorial contributions can be made in Linda’s honor to the Our Lady of Sorrows Parrish Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
