J.W. served his country proudly in the United States Navy.  He was a mechanic on the USS Ajax during the Korean War at which time he learned how to fix almost anything.  He later worked for Tinker Airforce Base where he later retired.  J.W. enjoyed fishing often competing with Vern Strong on the Stroud Lake.  He was a longtime member of the Independent Baptist Church of Davenport originally of Kendrick.  He always wanted company to visit him in his home and loved having his grandchildren around often sharing a cookout at the log cabin on the family land.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents and 2 siblings, William Leon Mattheyer and Bobba Ann Wilson.  Survivors include his children, Pam and her husband Jim Cannon of Chandler, John “Jaybird” Mattheyer and his wife Pam of Davenport, Nancy Prock of Davenport, Debbie and her husband Andy Beloncik of Davenport, Eddie Mattheyer and his wife Christie of Davenport, Malcolm Mattheyer and his wife Teena of Chandler, Wes Mattheyer and his wife Staci of Davenport, Murray Johnson of Stroud; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joyce Ann Seelig of Chandler, Prentice Gene Mattheyer of Earlsboro; along with many other family and friends.
