George Cates Harkins, Jr

George Cates Harkins, Jr. was born on September 2, 1934 in Erick, Oklahoma to George Cates Harkins and Willie Margrie Bullard Harkins. He passed away on April 10, 2019 in Chandler, Oklahoma at the age of 84.

George attended school in Erick and married Delta Marie Reed Harkins Boothby on September 13, 1953.  To this union was born Rick Harkins, Vicky Porter, Randy Harkins, Rodney Harkins and Rhonda Kaye Hildebrand. On August 11, 1968, George married Gloria Vigil.  To this union were stepchildren: Eddie Vigil, John Vigil, David Vigil and Pat Buster.  Gloria preceded him in death on January 8, 1999. George married Marilyn Albert on May 15, 1999.  With this marriage he gained stepchildren: Denton Harryman, Jeffrey Harryman, Michael Albert, Lane Albert, Norma Herbold and Leonda Fedric.  Marylin preceded him in death on September 7, 2008. George worked for Pronger Brothers from 1956 until 1962.  He then worked for Texico Gas Station in Stratford until 1964.  He then began working for Western Texas Gas as a welder and retired from there in 2000.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his sister, Adrene Harkins in 1953 as a newborn, sister Willie Faye Mateldia Harkins Dixon in 1978 and his parents. He is survived by his children, stepchildren, other family member and friends.

Graveside services were held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Stratford Cemetery in Stratford, Texas under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston, Oklahoma and Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas, Texas.
