Gary Scaffide

Gerrit (Gary) Vandellen Scaffide was born October 9, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio to his adoring parents Lawrence Joseph and Florence Gertrude (Vandellen) Scaffide.  Gary joined his Heavenly Father January 22, 2019 in Oklahoma City at the age of 67.

Gary enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on November 10, 1969 and married his first wife Peggy in 1971.  He served a total of 9 years in the Corp including multiple tours in Vietnam and received many accommodations for his bravery and sacrifice.  Gary married Darlene Pittman in August 2004, and spent the last 18 years of his life being a loving husband and a dedicated Papa to his many grandchildren.  He enjoyed Friday night dinners with Darlene and showering her with flowers and little surprises that she would sometimes lovingly scold him for, and other times, she would throw her arms around him. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wellston.

Gary planned outings with his grandchildren, giving them all unique nicknames that still apply today.  They would load up with their Papa, excited to go to the movies several times a month and often join him on the boat for a day of tubing, hoping and praying that Papa remembered to put the plug in this time.

Thank you for joining us as we say goodbye to our beloved Papa. Being surrounded by our loving family and friends has helped make this day what it truly is, a celebration of Love and Life.

Gary is survived by his wife Darlene of the home; his children Tony Scaffide and his wife Dawn, Adam Scaffide and Amanda, Ann Scaffide and Mark, Bryan Pittman and his wife Corrie, Joseph Pittman and his wife Rayelynn, Lesley and her husband Tucker McConnell; (17) grandchildren, Desiree, Adam, Dylan, Alyssa, Alyana, Anthony, Mercades, Allexis, Ian, Adam Jr., Chayse, Macey-Rae, Easton, Taylor, Tate, Kirbey, Autrey, great-grandson, Percie, a great-grandchildren on the way.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 in the Lehman Funeral Home chapel with a private interment at a later date.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
