Bobby Louis Powell

Bobby Louis Powell was born July 23, 1932 in Pinon, New Mexico to Louis Francis and Bobby Blaudwin (Deane) Powell.  He passed away at the age of 87 in his home in Luther on October 7, 2019 with his family by his side.

Bob married the love of his life, Laural (Murray) Powell, on December 18, 1977 and they shared 41 wonderful years together.  He had a successful career over the next 40 years as an associate professor at New Mexico State University and served as an Extension agent.  Bob and Laurel started, ran and later sold a successful pest control business in Corrales, New Mexico.  He retired from his work in 2002 and the family moved to Luther, Oklahoma.  Bob’s passion was always with his race horses.  He loved, trained and bred them for years.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom Powell, Donny Powell; and sister, Joy Lieber.  Survivors include his loving wife, Laurel Powell of the home; children, Robin Pettigrew of New Mexico, Clay Powell and his wife Sherry of Tulsa, Rob Murray of New Mexico, Rick Murray of Arizona, Jennifer and her husband Randy Bernardi of Choctaw; sister, Carolyn and her husband Charlie Russell of Texas; (10) grandchildren; (10) great-grandchildren all of whom he thought the world of as each loved and adored him.

As a member of the First Christian Church of Luther, Bob was and still is loved by many, and will be missed every day.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019 at the First Christian Church of Luther. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2020 in the Luther Cemetery. Donations can be made in Bob’s honor to the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
