Rest in Peace, Mr Ebert. I caused a lot of problems for you when I was in school. I came to understand you were just trying to make me a better person. Eventually, I feel that you won out. I think I grew into a man that you would approve. Thank you.

My condolences to your family. I now live in Columbia, Mo. With my Husband. Vernon touched my life several times at EMHS. As a young teenager who was on the fast track growing up at Edmond Memorial High School he would stop talk and direct us with laughter and respect. He was kind and passionate man... Our Heavenly Father awaits us all. For his kingdom is ours!

To the Ebert family, I have known your grandparents and parents since 1961 and everyone of them were amazing people. My dad was the minister there in Wellston and your family was as much my family as was my own. I just heard today that your Dad passed away and I am so sorry for your loss. Please remember that your parents and grandparents were such wonderful, loving and kind and giving people. Your loss is being felt by a lot of people. If I can ever help in anyway please email me. Sadly I did not know of your parents death until it was to late to come home. My heart goes out to all of you. In Christian love,

Carolyn Killian Hostutler

I finally was able to visit this page as we are about to come up on the one year anniversary of losing Dad so i do apologize for the late reply. I hate it that i feel like there were family members/friends that did not get to come because of it all happening so fast! Shoot, there are days it's hard to deal with the fact that he really is gone! I miss him so much!

Here is the letter i wrote him that the preacher attempted to read at his service.

Dear Dad,

For all the things you taught me, you left one thing out! You forgot to tell me how to go on without you! You taught me to love, forgive, admit when I’m wrong, help others, be strong and to try to be someone you could be proud of!

I want you to know~ I am happy for you. I have no doubt that Mom welcomed you with open arms! Charlie probably broke out the cards and coffee….Grandma and Grandpa are so happy to see the fine son they raised …and of course, Ross is probably bursting with all the B.S. he’s been waiting to tell you!

But as you used to say….Having to tell you goodbye is a tough pill to swallow!!

I want you to know that I loved you like no other! As far as I’m concerned~ you rode a white horse, you were my knight in shining armor who could slay ALL the dragons! You took a piece of my heart with you!

I’ll try to be strong and carry on like you raised me to do, but please know…You will NEVER be forgotten. You were the BEST DAD EVER!!!

I love you, Daddy!!

Sis

p.s. You are really in deep sh1t when I see you again! I fully expected you to stick around for the next 10 years or so like you told the doctor! I know you’ve heard me cussing you at the house! And mom, too! I just wasn’t ready to be alone! I miss you both tremendously!!

LOTS of memories from EHS students of Mr. Ebert and the males certainly remember his discipline: he could swing a paddle. Good Man, credit to education with his service and he touched lots of lives.

The Town of Wellston is going to be empty with the loss of Vernon. He was such a nice person & always cordial & giving good, solid advice to all. His Edmond students always spoke highly of him. May God give you all peace, strength & comfort in the days, weeks & months ahead. Treasure all your precious memories of him. Hugs & prayers to you all!
