Lawrence “Larry” Earl Riley, Jr. was born November 16, 1936 in Wink, Texas to Lawrence Earl Riley, Sr. and Juanita Ellen (Duncan). He passed away April 19, 2018 in Enid, Oklahoma at the age of 81.
Larry grew up in the Sweet Home Community Northeast of Wellston and graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1955. He served his country proudly in the Army and Air National Guard. Larry worked as a lineman for South Western Bell Telephone Company until he retired in 1995 after 35 years of service. He was a long time member of the Enid First Assembly of God Church.
Larry loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing especially when he was able to share his favorite fishing hole with his grandchildren. He was so passionate about his Texas heritage that he would stop while driving into Texas to let some air out of his car tires. He convinced his children that since everything was bigger in Texas he didn’t want his tires to explode.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Juanita; infant brother, Gerald Wayne Riley; and special aunt and uncle, Ethel and Arlace Ramsey who helped raise him. Survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years, Vontella “Vonnie” (Donaldson) Riley of the home; children, Michael Riley and wife Susan of Enid, Jeffrey Riley and wife Kristina of Bristow, Cheryl Cain and husband Mark of Oklahoma city; (6) grandsons, Matthew and Micah Cain, Jonathan, Camren, Josiah and Noah Riley; (4) great-grandchildren, Sophia and Juliet Cain, Abeni and Sie Riley; sister, Barbara Mayhall; along with many other family and friends.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Wellston Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
