Barbara Janice Nichols was born November 26, 1955 in Pasadena, Texas and passed away November 3, 2017 in Oklahoma City at the age of 61.  Barbara attended school in Dickinson Texas where she graduated in 1973.  She met Walter Nichols in Dickinson and they were married November 5, 1981.

Barbara worked as a Medical Coder for UTMB in Galveston, Texas.  Her family moved to Joplin, Missouri in 1999 where she worked at St John’s Hospital.  During her time there she earned several certifications for coding in various hospital and clinical settings.  In fact she had 6 initials following her name.  In 2005 they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and she continued medical coding for a cancer hospital.  In 2007 they moved again to Pearland, Texas and in 2009 they moved to Wellston, Oklahoma where she retired.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mary Hosea.  Survivors include her husband of nearly 40 years, Walter Nichols of the home; daughters Christi and her husband Danny Vanderlip of Wellston, Leslee Nichols of Wellston; son, Kellis Nichols; (6) grandchildren, Patricia and her husband Justin Hadley, Katie and her husband Thomas Holcroft, Daniel Vanderlip, Ross Vanderlip-Nichols, Bentlee Baker, Carter Walker, (2) great-grandsons, Kaden Vanderlip, Kolten Holcroft; sisters, Jackie and her husband James Spoonmore of Willis, Texas, Glenda and her husband Herb James of Ardmore, Oklahoma; along with many cousins; nieces; nephews; other family and friends.

A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9. 2017 in the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
